What's free, and what Plus adds
The free plan is not a trial. It does not expire, it does not ask for a card, and it is not a crippled version of the product. The core loop — store your details, fill any form, download the result — is unmetered.
What both plans include
- Your profile, and unlimited form filling
- Unlimited document downloads — filling a form and keeping the result is never capped

- AI chat, notes, calendar, Life Line, household profiles
- Every Ontario and federal form guide
- Passkeys and two-factor authentication
- Canadian hosting, self-hosted AI — your data is never sent to a third-party AI provider

That is the entire difference. Two monthly caps and a storage number.
What the metered things actually are
AI extractions from uploaded files. Handing a stored file to the assistant and asking it to pull the values out into your profile — "grab the data from my licence scan". Five of those a month. Note that this is narrower than "AI"; asking questions, filling PDFs, and creating notes are not counted here.
E-signature requests you send. Creating an envelope and sending it out for signature. Five a month. Signing something someone sent you is free and unlimited and never touches this counter. See Sign documents electronically.
Storage. Anything with a file behind it — uploads, generated PDFs, voice recordings, chat attachments. Text — your profile, your notes — is effectively free. See Storage: what counts.
When upgrading is actually worth it
Upgrade if you recognise yourself here:
- You scan a lot. High-resolution photos of documents eat 1 GiB faster than anything else.
- You send documents for signature regularly. Five a month is enough for household paperwork, not for someone running a side business.
- You are onboarding a lot of documents at once. A move, an immigration application, or settling an estate can burn a month's file extractions in an afternoon.
Do not upgrade because you think free is a trap. It is not — the thing most people use my-id.ca for costs nothing.
Checking where you stand
- Storage — Settings → Storage shows used against quota, with a warning past 85%.
- E-signature requests — the Sign page shows "Requests this month".
- AI usage — Settings → AI Usage, or ask the assistant "show my AI usage". See AI usage: what's counted.
Changing plan
Plan & payments in the account menu handles upgrades and cancellation. If you would rather have more space without a subscription, Settings → Storage also has a request-more-space option.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the free plan a trial?
- No. It does not expire and does not ask for a card. Business accounts have a trial; personal accounts do not.
- Which limits actually bite?
- For most people, none. The two metered things are AI extractions from uploaded files and e-signature requests you send, both at five a month. Filling forms and downloading what you filled are not capped at all.
- Does signing a document someone sent me use up my allowance?
- No. Only signature requests you send are counted. Receiving and signing is free and unlimited.
