Every setting explained

Settings is where the parts of my-id.ca that are off by default get turned on. Worth ten minutes once.

Storage

Used against your quota, as a percentage and a bar, turning amber past 85%.

Two buttons underneath: upgrade, and request more space if you would rather ask than subscribe. See Storage: what counts.

AI Usage

Tokens spent today, over 7 days, over 30 days, and lifetime — split between the web app and the Chrome extension. See AI usage: what's counted.

Extended tools — the Status bar

A single toggle for a persistent bar pinned to the bottom of the window, in the style of a code editor. It gives you:

• The Ctrl/Cmd+K command menu
• Keyboard shortcuts
• A live recording indicator
• Quick links to recent documents

Off by default. Worth turning on if you use the app most days. See Keyboard shortcuts, the command menu, and dictation.

Extended features

Opt-in capabilities, off until you ask for them. Turning one on makes it appear in your sidebar.

Language & region

Interface language and regional formatting — which is what decides how dates and numbers are displayed.

Appearance

• Theme — light, dark, or follow the system
• High contrast — stronger contrast for readability

Google Calendar

Connect, check status, trigger a manual sync, or disconnect. The sync runs both ways, and deletions propagate — see Calendar and Google Calendar sync before connecting.

Privacy & policies

Links to the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Privacy Rights, Data Processing Agreement, and the terms that apply to clients of businesses. Your actual controls — export, correct, delete — are on the privacy page: see Export, correct, or delete your data.

Two-factor authentication

Enable or disable TOTP. If it is off, a warning banner says so. See Turn on two-factor authentication.

Passkeys

Register a passkey with a device name, and see each one's domain, when it was added, and when it was last used. See Sign in with a passkey.

Password

Sends a reset link to your account email. The link expires in one hour.

A sensible first pass

1. Turn on two-factor authentication.
2. Register a passkey.
3. Set your theme.
4. Decide on the Status bar — try it for a week.
5. Look at Extended features so you know what exists.
6. Connect Google Calendar only if you have read what the sync does.
