Calendar and Google Calendar sync
Calendar and Google Calendar sync
The Calendar is in the sidebar under Workspace. It exists because a lot of what my-id.ca stores has dates attached — a permit that expires, an appointment where you need to bring three documents, a renewal you would rather not discover late.
Views
- Month — the grid, colour-coded by event type.
- Agenda — a straight list of what is coming, better on a phone and better when the month is busy.
A sidebar lets you toggle event types on and off, so you can look at only deadlines, or hide birthdays.
Creating an event
Click a day, or use the new-event button. An event has:
- Title and optional description
- Start and end, or all day
- Type — Meeting, Deadline, Task, Birthday, Reminder, Note, or Showing. The type sets the colour.
- Colour — override the type colour if you want (Sky, Violet, Rose, Emerald, Amber, Indigo, Slate, or automatic)
- Repeat — none, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or weekdays, with an interval, and an end condition (never, on a date, or after a number of occurrences)
- Reminders — set relative to the start time
Connecting Google Calendar
Go to Settings → Google Calendar and connect. You will be sent to Google to grant access and returned to my-id.ca.
Once connected the sync runs both directions:
- Pulled from Google — your Google events appear in my-id.ca. If you delete one in Google, it disappears here on the next sync.
- Pushed to Google — events you create in my-id.ca are sent to Google, so they show up on your phone and anywhere else you read that calendar.
You can trigger a sync manually from Settings rather than waiting, which is useful right after you connect.
Disconnecting stops the sync. Events already synced stay where they are; the two calendars simply stop being kept in step.
Things worth knowing before you connect
- Deletion propagates. Once connected, deleting an event in either place deletes it in both. If you want a private working copy of something, do not put it on a synced calendar.
- Your Google credentials are stored encrypted and used only to read and write calendar events.
- The sync works over a date range around now, so events far in the past or the distant future may not be carried across immediately.
Using the calendar well
The point is not to replace whatever calendar runs your life. It is to put document-shaped deadlines somewhere you will see them:
- Expiry dates — passport, licence, permit, insurance, work authorisation. Set an all-day Deadline a month before the actual date, not on it.
- Appointments with a document list — put what you need to bring in the description, so it is there when you are standing at the door.
- Renewals that repeat — an annual renewal set to repeat yearly is a two-minute task you never do again.
The AI assistant can create events for you — "remind me on August 4th about the doctor's appointment" — and list what is coming up. See Ask the assistant about your own data.

Frequently asked questions
- Is the Google sync one-way or two-way?
- Two-way. Google events are pulled in, and events you create in my-id.ca are pushed out to Google. Edits made in either place show up in the other after a sync.
- What happens if I delete an event in Google?
- It is removed from my-id.ca on the next sync as well. Deleting is not a per-app action once the two are connected.
- Can I disconnect Google later?
- Yes — Settings, Google Calendar, Disconnect. Events already synced stay where they are; they just stop being kept in step.
