What's inside your my-id.ca account
Most people meet my-id.ca through one thing — autofill on a web form, or filling a PDF without retyping. The account behind that is bigger. This page is the map.
Your sidebar groups everything into Workspace, Tools, and Network. A few features live outside the sidebar entirely.
Workspace
Dashboard
Your landing screen after signing in. It shows counts for your documents — total, completed, in progress, drafts, signed — plus recent activity, so you can pick up where you left off.
Calendar
A personal calendar with month and agenda views, recurring events, colour-coded event types (meeting, deadline, task, birthday, reminder, and more), and an optional two-way Google Calendar connection. See Calendar and Google Calendar sync.
Notes
A private scratchpad with rich text, pinning, and instant search. The AI assistant can read and create notes, so anything you jot down is findable later. See Notes: capture anything, find it later.
Templates
Reusable starting points for documents you fill repeatedly. See Personal templates overview.
My Documents
Document instances — the things you have filled, are filling, or have signed. Each one has an editor and a view mode.
Files
Raw uploads: scans, photos, PDFs, exports. Files count against your storage quota. The difference between Files and My Documents trips up almost everyone at first — Files and My Documents explains it.
Sign
Electronic signatures. You can sign documents other people send you, and send your own PDFs out for signature — with recipients, placed fields, and a sealed, tamper-evident result. See Sign documents electronically.
Life Line
Four visual timelines built automatically from data already in your account. Nothing to enter. See The four Life Line views.
Tools
Import Profile
The fastest way to fill your profile: upload a CV (PDF or DOCX), import from LinkedIn via the Chrome extension, or type it in. See Upload your CV and review.
Fill PDF
Upload a PDF with form fields and my-id.ca maps your saved information onto them. See Fill PDF with your saved profile.
Job Applications and Receipt Tracker
Two optional extras, off by default. Turn either on in Settings → Extended features and it appears in the sidebar. See Job applications and Receipts.
Network
My Chats
Real-time conversations with businesses you are connected to — for example a realtor or lawyer who requested documents from you. See Chatting with a business.
Sharing history
The record of what you shared, with whom, and when. See Sharing history overview.
Features that span the whole app
Global search
One search box across your businesses, documents, files, and templates — and, unusually, across field names and field values. If you can remember a phone number you once saved but not where you saved it, this is the tool. See Find anything you've stored.
The AI assistant
A chat that works with your own data: it answers questions, finds files, creates notes and calendar events, updates your profile (with your confirmation), and can fill a PDF for you. See Ask the assistant about your own data.
Keyboard shortcuts and the command menu
Search shortcuts work on every page. Turning on the optional Status bar in Settings adds a Ctrl/Cmd+K command menu, quick notes from anywhere, and voice recording. See Keyboard shortcuts, the command menu, and dictation.
Settings
Storage usage, AI usage counters, extended-feature toggles, language and region, theme and high contrast, Google Calendar, passkeys, two-factor authentication, and password.
The Chrome extension
Separate from the web app, and the piece that fills forms on other websites. See Install from Chrome Web Store.
Where to start
If your account is new, do these three in order:
- Import Profile — get your details in.
- The Chrome extension — try autofill on a real form.
- Fill PDF — take one PDF you would otherwise retype.
Everything else can wait until you need it. First steps after signing up walks that path end to end.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I have to use all of these features?
- No. Most people use two or three — usually Import Profile, the Chrome extension, and Fill PDF. The rest are there when you need them, and nothing breaks if you ignore them.
- Why do I not see Job Applications or Receipt Tracker in my sidebar?
- Those two are optional extras. Turn them on in Settings under Extended features, and they appear in the sidebar Tools group.
- Is any of this shared with anyone by default?
- No. Everything in your account is private to you until you explicitly share a document or respond to a request from a business.
