How to fill a form from a photo
You can fill forms using a photo of your ID, passport, or another document in the my-id.ca app when that option is available.
- Open the document or form you need to fill in your account.
- Choose Fill from photo or Scan document (exact labels depend on the screen you are on).
- Take a clear photo of the document (or upload an existing image).
- The system extracts text and proposes values for fields.
- Review and edit every value, then submit or share only when satisfied.
Processing is described in the Privacy Policy. For text you reuse on arbitrary websites, consider my-id.ca autofill after your profile reflects the corrected data.
Frequently asked questions
- What file types are supported for the photo?
- JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and PDF images. For best results, take a flat, well-lit photo with the form roughly horizontal.
- Is the photo sent to a third-party service?
- No. Photos are processed in your signed-in my-id.ca session on my-id.ca's own infrastructure.
- What if my-id.ca maps a field incorrectly?
- You can edit any extracted value before saving or printing the draft. The AI output is a draft, not a final form.
