Using the template library
Using the template library
Templates in the sidebar is a library. Each template is a ready-made layout for a particular kind of document, collecting exactly the fields that document needs and grouping them into tabs.
Personal templates overview introduces the idea. This page is about how the library actually behaves.
The key thing to understand
Filling a template is filling your profile.
Templates and Personal Information are two views of the same data. Personal Information organises your details by category — identity, contact, employment. A template organises the same details by document — everything one particular form wants, in the order it wants it.
So there is no duplication and no syncing. Type your address into a template and it is in your profile; change it in Personal Information and every template showing it is current.
This is why templates are worth opening even when you have no immediate form to fill: they are a checklist of what a real document will ask for.
Finding your way around
The library is organised in levels:
- Apps — the top grouping
- Documents — the individual templates
- Tabs — sections within a document
Breadcrumbs across the top show where you are, and previous/next controls move you between tabs, so a long document is a series of short screens instead of one intimidating page. The header shows how many tabs the document has.
Saving
There is no Save button. Changes are autosaved as you type, with the same debounce as the rest of the app. If you close the tab mid-sentence, what you typed is there when you come back.
Sections that repeat
Where a document covers something you may have several of — most often children — the whole section repeats. A row of chips appears above the tabs:
- One chip per person, showing their name once you have entered one
- A dashed + Add chip for another
- A ✕ on each chip to remove that person and their data, with a confirmation if there is anything to lose
Click a chip and the tabs underneath belong to that person. This is what lets one document hold details for two children correctly. See Add your spouse, children, and emergency contacts.
Getting value out of it
- Fill the templates that match your life, ignore the rest. An empty template costs nothing.
- Use a template as a preparation checklist. Before an appointment, open the relevant template and see what is still blank — that is your list of what to bring or look up.
- Fill it once, benefit everywhere. Because the data lands in your profile, values you enter here are then available to autofill, Fill PDF, and the AI assistant.
- Check the tabs you skipped. The tabs you avoided are usually the ones a real form will insist on.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I create templates myself?
- No. The library is provided for you. Your job is to fill in the ones that apply to you — and what you fill becomes part of your profile, usable everywhere else.
- Is there a Save button?
- No. Your changes are saved as you type, the same as everywhere else in the app.
- If I fill a field in a template, does it show up in Personal Information?
- Yes. Templates and Personal Information are two views of the same profile data — one organised by document, one organised by category.
