Fill a PDF by chatting with the assistant
The Fill PDF page is the thorough route. The assistant is the fast one.
How it works
- Open AI chat.
- Click the paperclip and attach the PDF (up to 15 MB).
- Say "fill this" — or "fill it with my data", or just send the file with a short instruction.
A moment later you get a result card rather than a wall of text.
Reading the result
The card tells you four things:
- The file name, so you know it worked on the right document.
- How many fields were filled — and how many were left blank. Blanks are normal: fields with no matching value in your profile, and fields the assistant judged to be somebody else's to fill.
- Which child's data was used, when the form has sections about dependants. It names the child it chose and lists your others, with the exact phrasing to switch: "fill for Maya".
- Where the copy went — either downloaded only, or saved into your Files under a folder for AI-filled documents.
Then two actions:
- Download — the filled PDF.
- Review N uncertain fields — appears when some values were low-confidence. It opens those fields in the normal review screen so you can fix them before you use the document.
That Review button is the one to take seriously. Low confidence means the assistant matched a field on a weak signal — an ambiguous label, an unusual abbreviation. Those are exactly the fields that end up wrong.
Naming the person up front
If you know the form is about a specific family member, say so in the first message:
"Fill this for Maya."
That is faster than filling, reading the summary, and asking again.
When chat is the right choice
- You already have the file open and want it done in one exchange.
- The form is short — a handful of fields where a full review screen is overkill.
- You are on a phone, where chat is a nicer interface than a field-by-field table.
When to use the Fill PDF page instead
- The document matters. An immigration form or a legal filing deserves the review screen, where every field shows what it was matched from.
- Many fields need manual entry. The review screen is built for that; chat is not.
- The PDF is password-protected. The Fill PDF page has a password box.
- You want to save values back to your profile as you go — the review screen offers that per field.
Limits
- PDF attachments are capped at 15 MB.
- The PDF needs real form fields. A scanned page with no fillable boxes cannot be one-click filled — see When a PDF has no form fields.
- AI work counts toward your usage. Ask "show my AI usage" to see where you stand.

- Same engine, different entry point. Chat is faster when you already have the PDF to hand and want one answer; the Fill PDF page gives you the full field-by-field review screen up front.
- The form asks about my children — which one does it use?
- It picks one and tells you which, listing your other children so you can say "fill for Maya" and get theirs instead. You can also name the child in your first message.
