Keyboard shortcuts, the command menu, and dictation
Once my-id.ca is part of your routine, the mouse is the slow part. These are the ways to skip it.
Shortcuts that always work

These live in the app header and work on every page. ? only fires when you are not typing in a field, so it will not interrupt you mid-sentence.
On the Notes page, Alt+Shift+N creates a new note and focuses it.

The Status bar and the command menu
my-id.ca has an optional Status bar — a thin bar pinned to the bottom of the window, in the style of a code editor. It is off by default. Turn it on in Settings → Extended tools → Status bar.
It gives you:
- A recording indicator while a voice recording is running
- Quick links to recent documents
- A trial reminder where one applies
- The command menu, opened with Ctrl/Cmd + K
Using the command menu
Press Ctrl/Cmd + K, type a few letters, move with the arrow keys, press Enter. Commands are grouped:
Navigation — Dashboard, Calendar, Notes, and, for personal accounts, My documents, Files, and My chats.
Actions — New note and Start / stop voice note.
View — the keyboard shortcuts list, What's new, the light/dark theme switch, and a link to the Help Center.
You will see key hints printed next to some commands (G D, ⌘R, ⌘J). Those label what the command does; they are not bound as global keys. Run the command from the menu.
Quick notes from anywhere
With the Status bar on, Alt+Shift+N works across the app, not just on the Notes page. Off the Notes page it opens a small capture window over whatever you were doing, so you can write something down without losing your place. On the Notes page it creates the note inline.
Why Alt+Shift+N and not Ctrl+Shift+N? Chrome reserves that combination for a new incognito window, and the browser never passes it to the page.
Voice
Dictating into AI chat
The microphone button in AI chat records what you say, transcribes it, and puts the text in the message box for you to check before sending. This is the most useful voice feature for most people: reading numbers off a card is much faster spoken than typed. See Ask the assistant about your own data.
Voice notes
The command menu can start and stop a voice recording that keeps running while you move around the app — a bar stays visible so you do not forget it, and it can take you back to where you started it. The recording stays attached to that page rather than becoming a text note on its own.
Where recordings are most useful is on a checklist shared with you by a business: there, you can record and work with the audio as part of the checklist.
A workable routine
Ctrl/Cmd+Alt+Fbefore you go looking. Searching is nearly always faster than navigating.- Turn on the Status bar if you use the app daily. The command menu pays for the strip of screen it takes.

Frequently asked questions
- Why does Ctrl/Cmd+K do nothing for me?
- The command menu lives in the Status bar, which is off by default. Turn it on in Settings under Extended tools, and the bar plus its shortcuts appear.
- Do the G D / G N shortcuts shown in the menu work?
- They are labels on the commands in the list, not global key bindings. Open the menu with Ctrl/Cmd+K, type a few letters of the command, and press Enter.
