Ask the assistant about your own data
Most AI chats know a lot about the world and nothing about you. AI chat in my-id.ca is the opposite: it knows almost nothing about the world, and everything you have chosen to store in your account.
Open it from AI chat in the app. (The older /ai-search link still works and redirects here.)
What you can ask it
Look things up
"What is my postal code?" "When did I last change my address?" "What's my policy number for the car insurance?"
It reads your profile fields, documents, files, templates, notes, and sharing history — and answers with the value, not a list of links to go dig through.
Find a file
"Find my insurance PDF." "Show my driver's licence scan."
It searches your Files by name and gives you a link.
Fill a PDF
Attach a PDF to the chat and say "fill this". The assistant maps your saved information onto the form's fields and returns a filled copy with a per-field summary so you can see what went where — including which fields it was unsure about. Full guide: Fill PDF with your saved profile.
File a photo of a document
Attach a photo or scan of an ID — driver's licence, passport, health card — and ask it to save it. The assistant reads the values, shows you exactly what it proposes to store, and on your confirmation writes them into your profile and saves the image to Files.
It can also pull data out of a file you already uploaded: "grab the data from my licence scan into my profile."
Save a receipt
If you have the Receipt Tracker turned on, attach a receipt photo or PDF and say "save this receipt". Merchant, date, and total are extracted automatically. See Receipts.
Take a note or set a reminder
"Note: the garage code is 4415." "Remind me on August 4th about the doctor's appointment." "What's on my calendar next week?"
Notes and calendar events are created directly, and upcoming events can be listed back to you.
Update your profile
"My new phone number is …" "I moved — my address is now …"
The assistant works out which fields you mean and proposes the change.
Housekeeping
"How much storage am I using?" "How many AI tokens did I use this month?" "Open my documents." "What can you do?"
Confirmation before anything is written
This is the important part. The assistant never silently changes your data.
When a request would write something, you get a confirmation card listing the exact values that will be saved, and where. You accept, edit, or reject. Nothing is stored until you accept.
If you accept and then change your mind, type "undo" — it reverts the most recent change it made in that conversation: a created event, a created note, a profile update.
Talking instead of typing
You can dictate your message rather than typing it. Useful when you are reading numbers off a card and would rather not switch back and forth. See The command menu, voice notes, and shortcuts.
The assistant also understands more than English — ask in the language you think in.
Conversation history
Your chat history is kept so you can scroll back to what it told you last week. You can clear it whenever you like; clearing removes the conversation, not the data it acted on.
What it will not do
- It will not answer general knowledge questions well. It is pointed at your account, not at the world.
- It will not act on anything you have not stored. If you never saved your passport number, it cannot tell you your passport number.
- It will not share anything with anyone. If you ask it to send information to a business, it explains and links to the sharing flow — you do the sharing yourself. See When you receive a request.
- It cannot see other people's accounts. Ever.
Usage
AI work is metered per account. You can ask the assistant itself — "show my AI usage" — for a breakdown by day, week, month, and lifetime, split between the web app and the Chrome extension. The same numbers appear in Settings → AI Usage.
Getting good answers
- Be specific about which thing you mean. "My insurance number" is ambiguous if you have three policies; "my car insurance policy number" is not.
- Attach the file rather than describing it. For PDFs, IDs, and receipts, attaching is the whole workflow.
- Read the confirmation card properly. It is the one place an extraction error is cheap to fix.
- If it cannot find something, it probably is not saved. Add it via Import Profile and ask again.

Frequently asked questions
- Does my data go to an outside AI company?
- No. The AI processing that touches your data runs on servers my-id.ca operates. See the Trust page for the full breakdown of where data goes.
- Can it change my profile without asking?
- No. Anything that writes — a profile update, a new event, saving extracted values — shows a confirmation card listing exactly what will be stored. Nothing is written until you accept, and you can undo the last change by typing 'undo'.
- What if it gets something wrong?
- Check the confirmation card before accepting; that is the moment to catch an error. If something was already saved incorrectly, ask it to undo, or edit the field directly in your profile.
