Fill PDF with your saved profile
The Fill PDF feature (in the app navigation) is for PDF files that already contain fillable fields (interactive form fields in the PDF). It is different from the Chrome extension, which targets web pages in the browser.
What you can do
- Upload a PDF from your device.
- my-id.ca analyzes the form fields and proposes values from your saved profile in the app.
- You review each field: accept, edit, or pick another value from your profile search where the app offers it.
- If the PDF is password-protected, enter the password when prompted.
- When you are satisfied, follow the on-screen steps to finish. The app offers a download such as FDF or XFDF (depending on the file). Import that data in a desktop PDF reader (Adobe Acrobat, Preview on macOS, Foxit, and similar) into your original PDF—the on-screen help in the app lists common menu paths.
Button labels can change with product updates; always read the step headers on Fill PDF while you work.
When Fill PDF fits better than the extension
- The organization needs a downloaded PDF rather than a web-only form.
- You already have the official government or company PDF template.
- You want a structured review of every PDF field before you submit the file elsewhere.
From Chrome extension (PDF in the browser)
When you open a PDF in Chrome (for example a government form), the extension cannot fill it inside the tab. Instead:
- Open AI Chat in the extension side panel.
- Ask to fill the form (for example, “fill this form”).
- Click Fill this PDF in my-id.ca in the chat reply.
- On Fill PDF, confirm or adjust profile matches, then download or save the filled PDF.
You may need to sign in on the website if you are not already logged in there. The handoff expires after about ten minutes — if it expires, return to the PDF tab and ask AI again.
When the Chrome extension fits better
- The process lives entirely in a browser form on a website.

- Which PDF form types are supported?
- AcroForm and XFA PDFs with form fields. Flat scanned PDFs need to be uploaded as a photo via Fill from photo instead.
- What is FDF / XFDF?
- Form-data exports you can import into Adobe Acrobat or Foxit to fill a PDF that lives on your own machine.
- Can I download a fully-filled PDF?
- Yes. Choose Download filled PDF if you want the values baked in, or FDF/XFDF if you prefer to merge in your own PDF tool.
